Spectran Group were contracted to undertake the cleaning of approximately 6km of old wood stave hydro pipeline between the Nive River and Laughing Jack Lagoon. The pipeline was covered in moss and saplings.
Cleaning took place over 6-weeks, with the weather being a major site issue. Special requirements included special consideration to minimise the impact to the surrounding wilderness and ground area.
Access to the top of the pipe was achieved by using a boom lift. Access for the boom lift was off the existing maintenance roadway, ensuring in our working remotely we had suitable site access.
Environmental factors and considerations had to be made as the works were undertaken in the central highlands in late autumn and early winter. Working conditions ranged from sunshine to wind, rain, hail and snow. Workers were supplied with thermal and wet weather gear. The completed sections highlighted the wooden pipeline’s pristine condition.
